Optimism

I met Michael Hayman of Seven Hills PR a couple of days ago. Michael is also chairman of Coutts & Co Entrepreneurs and co-founder of StartUp Britain. Like me, he’s a pragmatic optimist. I met Michael in Heron Tower, Bishopsgate as he gave an insight into entrepreneurship and optimism in Liverpool, which is hosting the 2 month long International Festival of Business in 2014.

It’s been a challenging 5 years in British business but despite that there have been successes, Heron Tower for one. The building was finished in 2011, having been built in the midst of economic downturn but now stands proudly as the tallest building in the City of London. No doubt optimism played its part in getting the scheme approved, built and occupied.

There’s room for pragmatic optimism in business, especially when things are tough. Keeping your head high when others have lowered theirs may just allow you to spot the opportunities as they come over the hill or to keep your eye on the target and get there first.
